WHAT IS A RETREAD TYRE

The process of manufacturing retread tyres is very complicated in technical terms. However, once a complete understanding of the product has been achieved, and the requirements in the field of manufacturing tools and quality control have been complied with, a new tyre resurfaces with the same characteristics as the original one, so retreading can indeed be regarded as art.
Aircraft tyres that undergo extreme load every time when the place takes off or lands are retreaded by large companies in the aircraft industry up to 6 or 7 times; the tyres for trucks and buses are retreaded at least 2-4 times. In many European countries a law has been introduced which requires at least 20% of public transport to use retreaded tyres on a compulsory basis.
Retreaded tyres must undergo the same tests as new ones. Correspondingly, their safety is not only comparable, but it is identical.
The carcasses of used tyres that have undergone careful inspection are given a new lease of life. The manufacturing process ensures the retention of about 70% of material in used tyres, and as much can be saved on energy spent on production, while the cost of materials make up about 30% as compared with making new tyres.
The major part of more or less worn out tyres (carcasses) undergoes secondary processing. With that purpose in mind, they have been sorted out, tested with the help of electronic devices, while experienced specialists are working side by side with specialized modern equipment. Technological processes

SELECTION/SORTING AND INSPECTION

  • First of all, tyres are inspected visually for defects.
  • Then they are checked under pressure and with the help of translucent lighting.
  • Only impeccable tyres that have only been used once satisfy the strict requirements for a future tyre and move on to the next level of processing.
  • Only the carcasses not older than 4 years are allowed for processing.
  • All of our carcasses are supplied by premium class manufacturers.

GRINDING

  • The tread and side walls of tyres that have been checked and selected at the first stage undergo grinding further on.
  • The worn out layer of rubber is removed using the most state-of-the-art automatic computer-operated machine, creating a uniform profile and reducing imbalance.

APPLYING THE NEW LAYER

  • New material is applied on the tyres after grinding with the help of an automatic extrusion machine, which implements the programmes aimed at creating a new profile.

HEATING UP AND VULCANIZATION

  • Workpieces are placed into special vulcanizing presses, and the tread pattern is being formed, while the rubber mix changes its physical and chemical properties.

FINAL PROCESSING AND INSPECTION

  • At the final processing stage, final physical tests on pressure, rotation, runout are carried out on the retread tyre.

STUDDING

  • The studding process is carried out in accordance with the European standards, using a semi-automatic machine. Only Finnish studs are used. At least 100 studs or more are used for one single wheel.

LOGISTICS

  • The wheels that have undergone all of the technological stages and tests are sent to customers in the Baltic States, Scandinavia, and Russia. In addition to making deliveries to high profile customers, we also deliver tyres directly to business and private customers directly from the factory.
